Collection: Cenote Inspired Copper Electroformed Jewellery

In my recent trip to Central America, I was blown away by the Sacred Cenotes I visited. The water was crystal clear and vibrantly blue, green in places that had sunlight trickling through tropical leaves and vines. Light reflected onto the rocks, and walls of vines hung like a curtain to protect the cave within. The water continued deep underground, and snorkeling through the tunnels was terrifying as I passed over deep black holes leading into the Earth. It was like entering a giant sink that could empty at any second, sweeping me down into water filled chambers within the Earth. As I swam, I wondered how many Mayan women had swam here, how many young girls had been sacrificed here to appease the gods? Were their murdered bodies down in the dark tunnels? It felt like I was swimming with spirits.

I've learned many things about the geology here, and these cenotes are an ancient wonder, being created by the impact that killed the dinosaurs. They were a bucket-list place to visit for me and a place I want to see protected for thousands of years to come.

There are so many great documentaries about how the cenotes are worshipped and cared for by the Mayans, the only freshwater source in the area.

These necklaces were inspired by the colours, layers of light, ripples and reflections I observed in Cenote Dos Ojos.
