Wearing seashells holds significant cultural and symbolic value across various societies. Seashells have been used for adornment and as symbols of protection, fertility, and prosperity in many cultures throughout history. The shells themselves are created by marine mollusks, such as snails, clams, and oysters, through a process known as biomineralisation. These creatures extract calcium carbonate and other minerals from the ocean to form their shells, which serve as protective coverings. The intricate patterns and shapes of seashells reflect the diversity and beauty of marine life, showcasing the wonders of the ocean. By incorporating seashells into jewelry or accessories, individuals can connect with the natural world and evoke feelings of serenity and connection to the sea.

This particular shell is from a fresh water aquarium snail called a Mystery Snail, and he lived in my fish tank at home. I loved and cared for him and named him Barry. Sadly Barry died of natural causes and the shrimp and other snails (his babies) decomposed his soft body, leaving only his shell. He was paramount in starting a huge mystery snail population in my fish tank which is full of snails to this day.

Pendant comes with a chain roughly 40cm long, brass with brass lobster claw closure.

Care Instructions

With a few simple steps and a little knowledge, the speed and likelihood of the oxidization reaction can be lowered. The oxidization reaction is also responsible for creating the aged copper effect, which gives the jewelry a unique rustic look as it is worn (and loved!) by you.

  • Do not expose copper jewelry (especially patinated copper jewelry) to water or any type of solvent.
  • Do not wear copper jewelry while swimming (chlorine and salt will permanently damage copper and/or patina).
  • Do not wear copper jewelry while exercising, applying cosmetics, skin lotions or creams.
  • Keep the copper clean and dry as much as possible. Wipe down with a soft cloth and place in a clean baggie after it has been worn. Use anti-tarnish paper if needed.
  • Remove jewelry before bed. Also, while washing your hands, showering or bathing, so soap and water does not get trapped under the band/pendant.

For more information please review the Copper Care Page I have created here.
